Doubt 03:06
I went preaching Saying the kingdom was at hand I cast out devils and I raised up the dead I gave freely and freely I received But doubt came creeping Doubt came creeping I emptied my purse of silver and gold I took just a staff, my shoes, and coat I was a workman worthy of my mead I brought peace to a worthy house and shook the dust off from unworthy towns I feared the killers of the spirit but not the killers in the crowd Then doubt came creeping Wrapping fingers around my heart Doubt came creeping Wrapping me in its warm arms I did as I was told I sewed unrest within households And like two sparrows I was bought and I was sold I screamed to heaven for my profit and reward I called out to heaven for my profit and reward But the sky it was silent... a soup of blue And doubt came creeping Wrapping fingers around my heart Doubt came creeping Wrapping me in its warm arms I went preaching But doubt came creeping © 2017 Paul Creswell

Ms. Wilson 04:11
Ms. Wilson will not speak of it today But the newspaper reported what she’d likely have to say It was as long ago as most of you are old And the colors they were primed to welcome frost and snow Her mother, Mattie Wilson, went to Our Lord that time And was buried in the yard behind Our Lady Magdalene At twilight, that same evening, when Ms. Wilson went to pray, she was chilled to the marrow by what came out of the grave It had the body of a child but its face was something wild! And she saw it claw its way out of the ground Its breath was hot with flesh having claimed its rotten prize Now she never can forget those eyes! Officer MacDougal formed a watch to calm the town And one night they caught Terrance Boyle on the Magdalene grounds The bites on his legs, they said, were those of a raccoon But Terrance never left the house again by the light or by the moon Ms. Wilson will not speak of it today But her attitude was different then, they say She told the papers all about the horror on that night Of the loss of Mattie’s corpse and the vile grave-robbing sprite It had the body of a child but its face was something wild! And she saw it claw its way out of the ground Its breath was hot with flesh having claimed its rotten prize Now she never can forget those eyes! Ms. Wilson will not speak of it today © 2017 Paul Creswell

Bootstraps 03:46
He took off his boots and he polished ‘em clean He undid the leather; tore back the seams Then he threw a strap tight over the beam Put his head in the noose and set himself free Bootstraps, oh, bootstraps You'll be the death of me Bootstraps, oh, bootstraps You'll be the death of me I let out a cry 'cause I'd never seen A man hanging high Swayin’ in the breeze His face turning purple; turning red; turning green And his words wormed they're way into my memory Bootstraps, oh, bootstraps You'll be the death of me Bootstraps, oh, bootstraps You'll be the death of me You’ll be the death of me Sometimes late at night I picture that scene Can I get up and fight? Fix my jaw; press repeat? Can I stand by and watch as the years waste me? Should I grind my bones to nothin’? Or follow his lead? Bootstraps, oh, bootstraps You'll be the death of me Bootstraps, oh, bootstraps You'll be the death of me Bootstraps, oh, bootstraps You'll be the death of me You’ll be the death... of me… of me © 2017 Paul Creswell
