about

These are experimental tracks that I've created recently using a digital sequencer and a midi keyboard. Not my typical thing as I'm more of a folk guy, but this is a fun way to explore dynamics, phrasing, and melody. Most of these tracks are constructed a bit like the first few Talking Heads records (from what I understand anyhow). Each part is primarily a loop that is turned on and off and then played with as it is mixed on the fly. While it might not seem like it, the core of each track is a live performance. Only so much can be programmed. The parts have to be turned on and off in the proper sequence to create the song without making a mess of it. Meanwhile, the the lead has to be improvised. Additionally, on "Boaz Blue River" and "A Stack of Books", I performed other keyboard leads and harmonies on top of a pre-recorded track and then mixed it all together. Happy listening!
