like a swollen bubble bursts

I guess I'd hoped for some kind of show
blood, guts, and fire
thunder, ice, and snow
but there were no stomping armies
there were no battle cries
just the small empty shudder of the beast that lay dying
now it's flat and it's pale
paltry, flaccid, empty, and stale
there was no bang
