Green Tea (Live)

I took myself out for your birthday
and I went to your favorite place
without reservations
it's green tea and water
no wine
you'd've ordered a bottle
a young man was bragging to his girlfriend
I don't brag much anymore
you gotta have someone to impress, I guess
somebody beautiful
so, it's green tea and water
no wine
you'd've ordered the bottle
many days felt like sorrow
but maybe that storm is just passing through
I can taste the air
sticky freedom
you can't let nostalgia suffocate you
it's green tea and water
no wine
you'd've ordered the bottle
what a bargain
what a bargain

Iago McGill is my name
and it's to confess that I came
oh, Father, I have done wrong
my friends are gone
at night we would gather up on Avery Hill
where the bones of the Abbey are crumbling
deep down in the crypt we constructed a still
and we spent our nights brewin' and bubblin'
we sold a few barrels and we caught a few coins
but the sad eyes of fate were unkind
when word reached the Dead Boys of Wexford
we knew they'd have trouble in mind
Iago McGill is my name
and it's to confess that I came
oh, Father, I have done wrong
my friends are gone
Simon was our best lad, rough but not bad
you christened him, it's true
Kenny, was his brother, was lanky and sly
he was our company fool
but Darby was dirty and I should have seen
that he and the Dead Boys were scheming
the last time we met at the Abbey
the cruel eyes of death were gleaming
Iago McGill is my name
and it's to confess that I came
oh, Father, I have done wrong
my friends are gone
the night they attacked I was there with my friends
but fear grabbed me by the hands
I hid in our still, pulled the lid o'r my head
and breathed through that blowoff tube
I don't know how long I was there
but the constable pulled me up to air
and Darby was gone
and the Dead Boys had murdered my friends
leaving me nothing
Iago McGill is my name
and I will walk forward in shame
oh, Father, how could this be?
why them not me?
