about

I've always been a fan of the way that pop songs in the 1930's and 1940's made use of sounds and alliteration. That's where the inspiration came from for this song.

lyrics

so this is how it ends?
like a swollen bubble bursts
piff
poof

so this is how it ends
like a rotten leaf falls
swish
swoosh

I guess I'd hoped for some kind of show
blood, guts, and fire
thunder, ice, and snow
but there were no stomping armies
there were no battle cries
just the small empty shudder of the beast that lay dying

now it's flat and it's pale
paltry, flaccid, empty, and stale
there was no bang
and there was no scream
there was just
piff and poof
